What the protocols are built on
Deywos protocols are built from techniques with a published research record — slow-paced breathing, posture work, guided attention. Below: the techniques, and the literature behind them.
This research concerns the techniques themselves, not Deywos. Deywos is a self-help tool for general wellbeing — not a medical device, and none of this is medical advice.
Slow-paced breathing
Breathing at a slowed, steady pace — typically around four and a half to six and a half breaths per minute — has been studied for decades as a way to influence autonomic balance. At this pace, breathing and heart rhythm fall into resonance: heart rate variability rises markedly during the practice, a pattern associated with parasympathetic engagement and a calmer physiological set-point. It is among the most consistently replicated findings in self-regulation research, and the practice itself predates the research by millennia — slow, deep breathing is central to yogic and other traditional disciplines from which the modern protocols descend.
Findings on subjective outcomes are more moderate but consistent in direction: reviews report reduced self-rated tension during and after sessions. Most studies measure effects in or shortly after the session; how far effects carry into daily life is studied less and reported less consistently — which is why Deywos treats each session as its own measured event rather than promising lasting change.

Posture
Body position feeds back into state. Controlled studies report that adopting an upright, open posture is associated with higher self-rated energy and steadier affect under load, compared with slumped positions — and that postural change alters breathing mechanics, which in turn shapes the breathing techniques above. Posture is the quietest of the three components: it costs nothing, works immediately, and sets the stage for the rest of a protocol.

Guided attention
Directing attention deliberately — to the breath, to regions of the body, to a guiding voice — has a research record on two fronts: audio guidance improves adherence and pacing accuracy compared with unguided practice, and structured attention during slow breathing deepens the physiological response versus breathing alone. In Deywos protocols, the audio layer is not decoration: it carries pacing, sequence, and attention — the difference between reading about a technique and actually doing it well.
